Project Performance Management System

for Climate Adaptation in Vennar Subbasin in Cauvery Delta Project

The way Forward

By implementation of this project, the wellbeing of the community with climate change resilient life will be assured.
The irrigated agriculture will be very sustainable because of

  • Better conveyance of irrigation supplies and flood flow due to infrastructure improvements

  • Equitable supply of irrigation waters as the operation systems are going to be based on a Decision Support Systems, and as such, the tail and farmers will be able to get their due irrigation supplies.

  • The rehabilitated Tail End Regulators, the sea water ingress into river channels and ground water aquifers will be prevented thereby improvements conjunctive use of surface and ground water.
Better flood forecasting/ flood warning, the data community will get warning well in advance such that loss of life/ movable property could be avoided.

  • The embankment will safely withstand flood of 25 years return period which is also recommended in the Natural Flood Commission.
Because of the improved infrastructure, the area affected by routine/ smaller floods of 2 to 10 years return periods will also be free from such floods.

  • Higher crop yields due to practice of optimum cropping pattern and cropping calendar.

  • In case of very high floods, based on the flood risk mapping, advance information about the location to be affected, the extent of flood inundation the depth of flood water and the duration of inundation could be disseminated so that people of the location could be moved to so far places/disaster shelters.
The flood risk mapping will also help in assessing the loss of assets more scientifically.
